One of the first exhibitions at the Manchester Photographic Gallery was of local photographer Paul Goulden. His work at the gallery consisted of documenting the training and hardships of the boxer Richard John Hatton a.k.a Ricky ‘The Hitman Hatton’. The photos evoke feelings of tribulation, hardship and the rise and fall of a champion. The themes of Goulden’s photos are of one spectrum that the gallery showcased in terms of photos inspired by Manchester itself.
Other exhibits that have been showcased at The Manchester Photographic Gallery are of such mancunion photographers as Ranjit Doroszkiewicz and Kevin Cummins. Doroszkiewicz work displayed at the gallery are inspired by his travels in the Far East, while Kevin Cummins work celebrated ‘Exemplar: Joy Division’.
