Kevin Cummins exhibition ‘Exemplar: Joy Division’ at the Manchester Photographic Gallery has now been extended till the end of March 2012
Manchester Photographic Gallery is proud to announce the extention to the exhibit - Kevin Cummins will be continuing to exhibit a special collection of his iconic photographs of Joy Division. Kevin enjoyed unrivalled access to the band for 3 years ~ from their first gig in May 1977 to front man, Ian Curtis’ untimely death in May 1980. These stunning photographs have become synonymous with the band and their public persona, as the band’s influence has become increasingly important. This exhibition is not to be missed by any Joy Division fan.
Kevin studied photography for four years in Salford. He then embarked on a career which has spanned a broad spectrum of work across the UK ~ from The National Theatre to Manchester City Football Club. Kevin has contributed to numerous UK publications, including: The Times, The Observer, The Guardian, Esquire, Maxim, Elle, Vogue, Mojo, FourFourTwo and The Big Issue. He spent 10 years as the chief photographer for the New Musical Express and was a founding contributor to The Face, the influential style magazine where he won an award for Magazine Cover of the Year. Kevin’s work can be seen gracing many record sleeves and book jackets and he regularly contributes to various publications worldwide.
